A 32-year-old man is in custody after he was allegedly brandishing a firearm near Grant Park High School on Friday, May 12, 2023.
Police say that the accused brandished the firearm in a restaurant parking lot and threatened a 16-year-old before walking away.
Responding officers located the suspect with the help of bystanders and placed him under arrest after a brief use-of-force encounter. Police seized an imitation firearm and three counterfeit $100 bills that were in the suspect possession.
Tyrone Tijani-Mazur has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
- Possession of Counterfeit Money
He was detained in custody.
Police also said that due to the nature of the incident, Grant Park High School was placed on hold and secure procedures until the suspect was in custody.
