Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty After Public Report

A 20-year-old Winnipeg man is facing animal cruelty charges after concerned citizens reported him for mistreating dogs in the Central Park neighbourhood.

On Friday, April 4, 2025, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service Patrol officers responded to the 300 block of Edmonton Street following reports of a male violently mishandling dogs in his care. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect repeatedly and forcefully pulling on the leash of one of the dogs as he walked them.

An investigation led officers to identify the adult male suspect and a nearby address linked to him. At approximately 3:50 p.m., the suspect was observed leaving an apartment complex. Despite being uncooperative, he was taken into custody without incident.

Officers subsequently attended a suite associated with the suspect and located the two dogs. The animals were seized by police and have been placed in the care of Animal Services. Authorities confirmed that no visible injuries were observed on the dogs.

The 20-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with Animal Cruelty and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He was released on an Undertaking, as mandated by the Criminal Code, with a condition prohibiting him from possessing any animals.
