RCMP at Winnipeg Airport have arrested a 35-year-old man after screening personnel with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) contacted them about a weapon found in a carry-on bag.
It happened Monday, August 21, 2017, just after 4:30 pm. The man was travelling to Toronto and trying to clear the passenger security screening with a garment bag that contained a firearm.
According to police, the gun was not loaded and the suspect was not carrying any ammunition.
35-year-old Mohammad Peyawary has been arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm, Possession of a Restricted Firearm, Unlawful Transport of an Unsecured Restricted Firearm, Carry Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Firearm for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace.
Peyawary has been detained in custody.
RCMP seized the weapon and are continuing to investigate with the help of their National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.
