Winnipeg Police Service has arrested and charged a 36-year-old man after a standoff in the Valley Gardens area on Friday, October 20, 2023.

Officers had been called to a home for the report of a domestic dispute. Once on the scene they encountered a man with a knife out side the residence who quickly went inside onece he spotted police. The man refused to leave the home .

A crisis negotiaror was advised of the armed and barricaded situation and after about three hours the man was takensafely into custody.

The suspect was taken to hospital where he was assessed and medically cleared.

No one was injured during the incident.

The accused was charged for his alleged involvement with Assault, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and four counts of Disobeying Order of the Court.

Police say that the accused has not been identified to protect the identity of the family. He was detained in custody.
