Man Arrested After Armed Robbery Attempt at Downtown Restaurant

A Winnipeg man is facing robbery and fraud charges after allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening staff at a Main Street establishment on Wednesday evening.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the incident occurred on March 19, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m. at a business located in the 300 block of Main Street. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Christian Shawn Sampy, entered the establishment and demanded food and alcohol.

Police say Swampy became belligerent when it was determined he did not have the means to pay for the items. When staff refused to serve him further, he allegedly produced a knife and threatened them.

Fortunately, off-duty police officers were present and dining at the establishment. They immediately intervened and placed Swampy under arrest. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Swampy has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery and Fraudulently Obtaining Food or Lodging. He has been detained in custody.

Police continue to investigate.
