On May 7, 2017 police in Brandon began looking into a case that involved a man who reportedly answered an online ad that was offering companionship. The victim was picked up by two females and taken to an apartment. As the three of them were approaching the building  two males armed with machetes grabbed the man and tied him up. The suspects forced the victim to hand over his bankcard and pin number.

While the victim was being held against his will two of the suspects left with his debit card and began making purchases at several businesses around Brandon. When they returned they threatened the victim to transfer a large sum of money to the four suspects.

According to the victim he was also drugged by the assailants and while under the influence he was taken to a bank machine and forced to withdraw another large sum of money.

On May 18, 2017 police arrested one of the suspect in the case after she hired a cab to “just drive around”. After the taxi metre reached $100 the female bolted from the cab but she was caught by police at 10th Street and Victoria Avenue.

A 20 year old female from Brandon has been charged with Transportation by Fraud, Forcible Confinement, Robbery with Violence and Extortion

She was held in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre and appeared in court today.

Police continue to investigate and are attempting to identify the three other suspects.
