Firearm charges laid
One man had an unlucky day in early April after he shot himself by accident and got arrested for having the weapon in the first place.
It happened on April 6, 2017 around 8:00 am. Two men got into a taxi in the 2100 block of Gallagher Avenue and asked the driver to take them to an address in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue.
On the trip one of the men took out a sawed-off shotgun from a bag and gave it to the other man who concealed it.
When the cab pulled up to the address the man with the shotgun accidentally shot the weapon hitting himself in the lower body as he was getting out of the taxi. The man who had given him the gun took off with the firearm. The cabbie drove the injured man to hospital.
Police became involved and arrested the injured man at the hospital.
Sean Roy Martin, 24, from Winnipeg, faces a number of firearm related charges as well as charges for failing to comply with his probation order for his alleged involvement.
Police continued to investigate the incident and on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 the other suspect in the incident was located in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue and arrested.
Mark Douglas Rodgers, 25, from Winnipeg, has been charged with a number of firearm-related offences for his alleged involvement in the incident.
Both Martin and Rodgers have been detained in custody.
