Male stabbed during bush party

Winnipeg Police are investigating a stabbing that happened early Saturday morning, July 9, 2022, near Community Row and Wilkes Avenue.

Around 12:39 am officers responded to reports of a stabbing but initially could not locate anyone. The officers travelled south on Community Row for about two kilometres when they were flagged down by several teenagers who told the officers their friend had been stabbed.

The victim was in a heavily-bushed area about one kilometre away that was only accessible by foot. The officers gathered their medical supplied and made their way through the brush and mud until they found the 18-year-old male victim.

Officers administered emergency care using chest seals and bandages to stabile the victim. When Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived they, along with police carried the victim out to the road on a soft stretcher. The victim was placed in a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital in critical condition. The victim was later upgraded to stable.

Police say that officers were told at the hospital that due to the severity of the injuries the victim sustained the outcome could have been fatal if police were not able to stabilize the victim when they did.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit are investigating and ask anyone with information about the incident to call (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
