The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into the circumstances that caused a serious injury to a male who was attempting to flee Winkler Police Service (WPS).

The IIU says that on June 8, 2022 an officer had attempted to stop the operator of a dirt bike who was riding on a roadway within the city limits. The suspect fled and in his attempt to evade police hit a curb and was ejected from the bike. The male suffered a broken wrist.

As a broken wrist is considered a serious injury the IIU is mandated to investigate.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident of who may have video footage is asked to call the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
