Male in custody after a standoff with police

RCMP from Wasagaming responded to a report of a male threatening to shoot a female at a home in Harrison Park about 10 kilometres from Onanole on Tuesday night, July 21, 2020.

Officers were told the male was in possession of firearms which resulted in a response from several RCMP detachments in the area along with the Emergency Response Team and officers from the Critical Incident program.

Local officers contained the home and waited for the RCMP’s Tactical Armoured Vehicle (TAV) to arrive.

Police say that at about 3:30 am the standoff ended when the TAV knocked down the door of the residence and the male suspect surrendered.

The 60-year-old suspect was suffering a serious self-inflicted wound. He was treated on scene by RCMP medics anlong with local emergency medical crews and transported to hospital in stable condition.

RCMP say that the man will be facing a number of charges including Uttering Threats and Pointing a Firearm.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified of the injury the male sustained during the incident and are also investigating.
