A-27-year-old male wanted on several outstanding warrants in Ontario is in custody after he was caught driving a stolen Saskatchewan SUV and evading police.
Around 2:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022, Manitoba RCMP received a report that RCMP in Moosomin, Saskatchewan had attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. The driver refused to stop and attempted to ram officers. He fled on Highway 1 eastbound.
Officers spotted the vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Brandon travelling in excess of 200 km/hr. Officers made an unsuccessful attempt to stop the vehicle. They relayed the vehicles last know location to RCMp in Portage la Prairie.
As the suspect approached Portage la Prairie officers were waiting and deployed a spike belt. The driver ran over the belt and drove a short distance before the SUV went off the road into the ditch. The driver then got out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.
The suspect was taken into custody.
Daniel Legue of Cornwall, Ontario was charged for his alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest and two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
