A 23-year-old male is facing charges after he was seen armed with a gun on Thursday afternoon, say police.
Around 3:45 pm officers descended on the area around Ellice Avenue and Furby Street and located a male matching the description of the suspect.
Officers ordered the male to keep his hands in the air but he ignored them and tried to run away. As he was fleeing he reached into his sweater and dropped what appeared to be a carbine rifle.
Police seized the weapon while other officers continued to chase the suspect on foot and took him into custody in the 400 block of Agnes Street.
The gun turned out to be an airlift rifle.
Brent George Jones has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possess Weapon and two counts of Fail to Comply with Conditions of Release.
He was detained in custody.
