Manitoba First Nations Police Service have a 25-year-old male in custody after he allegedly assaulted and forcibly confined a female in a home on Sandy Bay First Nation.
Police say the incident happened around 5:00 pm on January 9, 2021. They say they were told the suspect had locked all the doors and refused to let the female occupant leave the residence.
As officers arrived on the scene the female was seen leaving the home. She told officers that she had been assaulted and that the suspect had a firearm.
First Nations Police and members of the RCMP surrounded the home. The male refused to leave the home and was seen holding a firearm.
Police eventually Abe to get inside the home after several attempts to have the suspect surrender were made. Once inside officers were able to place the suspect under arrest without further incident.
A search of the building uncovered a loaded sawed-off .22 caliber rifle and ammunition as well as a handgun style BB gun.
The suspect was charged with multiple offences for his alleged involvement including:
- Assault
- Forcible Confinement
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
- Possession of a Firearm when Prohibited
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition without a licence
- Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Weapons Possession Contrary to Order x 3
- Use of a Firearm in an Offence
- Pointing a Firearm
- Uttering Threats against a Person
He was detained in custody.
