On May 17, 2024, a routine traffic stop turned into a significant drug bust on Thompson Drive South. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized a loaded handgun, 113 grams of cocaine, approximately $10,000 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.
The RCMP conducted the traffic stop at approximately 3:00 pm. The investigation led to a search of the vehicle and its two occupants. Officers discovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine tucked into the passenger’s waistband.
The driver, a 69-year-old male from Thompson, is facing a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released from custody and is awaiting a court date.
The passenger, 27-year-old Abdi Sheybow of Windsor, Ontario, has been charged with over ten drug and firearm offences. These charges include Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime.
Sheybow was remanded into custody following the charges.
The Thompson RCMP are continuing their investigation into the incident.
