Major Crime Spree in Winnipeg’s West End: Suspect Arrested

Between June 18 and August 8, 2024, several commercial businesses in Winnipeg’s West End area were targeted in a series of break-and-enter incidents. The crime spree resulted in an estimated $283,000 worth of stolen property and $51,000 in damages.

The perpetrators used several stolen vehicles, many of which were taken from the affected businesses, to carry out these crimes.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of General Patrol officers, the Central Reporting Unit, and the Crime Analysis Unit, the Major Crimes Unit successfully identified and arrested a suspect in connection with these incidents.

Mathew Daniel Ross, 38, of Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with multiple offences, including:

  • 23 counts of Break Enter and Theft
  • 5 counts of Break Enter with Intent
  • Break Enter and Commit
  • 3 counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • 3 counts of Fraud Under $5,000
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order
  • 2 counts of Warrant – Fail to Comply with Order or Obligation
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Ross has been detained in custody as the investigation continues.
