Main Street Project gets more funding for COVID-19

Winnipeg’s Main Street Project will be receiving $468,000 in provincial funding operate coronavirus isolation units for the homeless. This brings the total amount of provincial funding for the facility to $2.1 million.

“The pandemic has had a significant impact on individuals and families experiencing homelessness,” said Families Minister Rochelle Squires. “In recent months, this site has operated at 80 to 100 per cent capacity. The new, additional provincial funding will help Main Street Project respond to this demand, which ultimately helps to protect all Manitobans from the spread of COVID-19.”

The province also announced that they have partnered with two community agencies to provide meals to low-income individuals who do not have access to kitchen facilities and are self-isolating due to COVID-19.

$335,000 will be spent on this initiative by Manitoba. Since the beginning of the year five to ten people have received daily meal packages during their isolation. Manitoba Housing’s Food Services prepares breakfasts and lunches for the daily packages while Made with Love provides one vacuum-sealed meal per day.
