Main Street Assault Under Investigation

On October 29, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1200 block of Main Street following a report of an injured adult male who had been assaulted with a weapon. North District General Patrol officers arrived to find a 44-year-old male victim being treated by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic personnel for serious injuries inflicted by a machete and bear spray. The victim was transported to the hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable.

The initial investigation revealed that around 3:30 a.m., the victim was alone in a park near St. Johns Avenue and Main Street when he was assaulted from behind. Despite his injuries, the victim managed to walk to Main Street, where he collapsed and emergency services were called.

The assault appears to have been unprovoked, with no known connection between the victim and the suspect(s). Due to the sudden nature of the attack, the victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect(s).

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to obtain an updated description of the suspect. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219, Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
