A Winnipeg man whose earlier bad behaviour had resulted in his not being allowed inside a south Point Douglas shelter is now facing assault and weapons charges after wielding a machete.
Police were called to shelter on February 1, 2022, just before 11:00 pm.
It’s alleged when the man was told he wouldn’t be admitted, he punched a security guard and then began swinging the machete striking protective glass near a staff office.
A suspect was arrested nearby, and safely taken into custody.
Blake Matthew Chief, 26, is charged with assault, possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of failing to comply with release order conditions.
