Police involved shooting on Long Plain First Nation

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating a police-involved shooting on Long Plain First Nation just west of Portage la Prairie.

At about 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, Manitoba First Nations Police went to a home on the reserve after receiving a report of a man with a gun in the residence.

When police arrived a confrontation took place which resulted in one or more officers firing their weapons and hitting the man. He died at the scene.

The incident was reported to the IIU and investigators were deployed to the scene.

Witnesses or anyone else with information or video footage that can help investigators is asked to call the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.

The investigation is continuing.
