Winnipeg Police have arrested a 24-year-old male after police found him in possession of a loaded shotgun.
It happened just after 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Police say that officers saw three men near Aikins Street and Alfred Avenue and that as they approached one of the men took off. Officers spoke to the other two men who had remained and learned that one of those men had a shotgun hidden under his clothes.
Kevin Carter Smith has been charged with:
- Possess Weapon
- Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance X2
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2
Smith was detained in custody.
Police say that they do not know the identity of the man who fled. The other male was questioned by police and released at the scene.
