Library launches musical instrument lending program

If you are musically inclined…or want to be then you might want to head over to the Millennium Library.

Beginning today, October 4, 2019 those with a Library card will be able to borrow musical instruments. The program got its start from a donation of more than 150 instruments from Sun Life.

“We are excited to provide more Canadians with access to music through this innovative program, one that aligns with our mission of building healthy and sustainable communities for life,” said Paul Joliat, Assistant Vice-President, Global Partnerships, Sun Life.

The musical instrument lending program will allow Winnipeggers to access a range of instruments including guitars, mandolins, violins, portable keyboards and drums.

“This meaningful program will offer musical opportunities to people who may not be able to afford an instrument, and will foster talent in aspiring musicians,” said Sherri Rollins, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks.

As part of the launch the library is also launching a drive for used instruments to add to the collection from Sun Life. New or gently used guitars, banjos, ukuleles, violins, drums and portable keyboards can be dropped off at Millennium Library or at Long & McQuade.
