Liberal Leader Dougald Lamont wins seat in St. Boniface

Manitoba Liberal Leader Dougald Lamont has won a seat in the legislature and official status for his party.

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, Lamont won the byelection in St. Boniface stealing the seat from the NDP. The byelection was called after former premier Greg Selinger resigned earlier this year. Selinger had held the seat since 1999.

This is the first time since the 1995 election that the Liberal party has had official party status in the legislature.

According to Elections Manitoba the turn out for the vote was approximately 48.38%

There were 12,960 registered voters and 6,270 votes cast, 19 ballots were rejected and 5 ballots were declined
