UPDATED

Manitoba Public Health has announced a large spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the province with an additional 11 cases on Monday, July 20, 2020. Since Friday the total number of new cases is 23 (Fri 5, Sat 1, Sun 6, Mon 11).

The last time Manitoba had a one day spike in cases this large was on April 10, 2020.

Since Saturday there have been 11 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region, three cases in the Winnipeg health region, three cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region, and one case in the Southern Health region.

One of the individuals announced as a positive COVID-19 case was a passenger on Asiana flight OZ 0704 from Manila, Philippines to Seoul, South Korea on July 7, Air Canada AC 0064 Seoul to Vancouver on July 8 (rows 26 to 32) and Air Canada AC 0296 Vancouver to Winnipeg on July 8 (rows 21 to 27).  Individuals on these flights are advised to self-isolate for 14 days following the flight and monitor for symptoms. Passengers on these flights, but not in the affected seats, should self-monitor for symptoms and self-isolate if they develop.

Public health attributes the high case counts to outbreaks in several Hutterite colonies, international travel and one case connected to a transport driver.
