Knife-wielding suspects arrested after one man injured

Two females in their 20s are in custody and facing a number of weapons related charges after brandishing large knives and confronting a number of bystanders on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

Police say the pair were chasing people in the 500 block of Ellice Avenue just before 8:00 pm and waving the knives around in a threatening manner.

One of the females is believed to have punctured the tires on two vehicles in a nearby parking lot.

A 54-year-old man who was an acquaintance of the females was stabbed while trying to intervene. He suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

The two suspect females were located by officers at an apartment nearby and arrested.

Shelane Wendy Sutherland, 21 has been charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment (x2)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Mackenzie Joanne Rose Redhead, 20 has been charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Member od the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate.
