Kitchen fire in Manitoba Avenue house under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire on Manitoba Avenue just west of Salter Street around 9:34 pm Sunday night, August 10, 2020.

When crews arrived smoke was coming from the rear of the building. An offensive attack was launched.

Firefighters were told that people were living in the home by bystanders. a search of the building found no one inside.

Crews learned after the fire was out that the home had been vacant for more than a month.

The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage to the kitchen.

The cause of the fire was determined by the fire investigator to be accidental. It appears to have been caused by a faulty appliance
