Minutes after midnight on Monday morning, August 10, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Police Service responded to a fire in a home on Kirkbridge Drive.
When crews arrived smoke could be seen coming from the garage. An offensive attack was launched with the fire declared under control within minutes of their arrival.
Firefighters then ventilated the home to clear out the remaining smoke. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental. Fire officials believe sparks generated from the use of power tools smouldered for several hours in debris next to the home before starting the fire.

A Winnipeg Police Service patrol supervisor told News 4 that the site of the fire was an active crime scene. Police cordoned off a large area encompassing the street but not the property that contained the fire. The patrol supervisor did not indicate what crime they were investigating.
News 4 reached out to Winnipeg Police who responded “The WPS is not investigating the matter.”
