Early Saturday morning, July 21, 2018, Winnipeg Police saw a vehicle driving in an erratic manner and run a stop sign.
As the vehicle continued it became apparent to officers that the driver was attempting to evade them. AIR-1 was called in and ground units backed off.
The vehicle was tracked as it sped through the city eventually turning onto the Perimeter Highway. Officers deployed stop sticks twice in order to safely deflate the vehicle’s tires.

The driver continued to travel at speeds approaching 170 km/h and drove eastbound in the westbound lanes into oncoming traffic.
Police say that eventually one of the tires did deflate but the driver continued until he was riding on the rim of the tire.
Stopping the vehicle the driver bolted on foot but was quickly apprehended by police and arrested.
As police approached the vehicle they found a female inside who told them she had been kidnapped from her home in the Weston area of the city
The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old male, is facing a number of serious charges for his alleged involvement including:
- Driving While Ability Impaired
- Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample – Drug Evaluation
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possession of a Weapon
- Assault
- Forcible Confinement
- Kidnapping
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He was detained in custody.
