Justice Minister Cliff Cullen said on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 that all employees currently working at Dauphin Correctional Centre (DCC) will be able to remain working for the province if they want to.
The province announced that they would be closing DCC earlier this year and since that time workers and supporters have questioned that decision.
“The decision to close DCC was not made lightly, and I understand this has been a time of change and uncertainty that has affected many people and the community of Dauphin and the Parkland region,” Cullen said in a written statement.
The minister said that the union representing employees at DCC and the Manitoba Government agreed that any DCC staff member who wishes to remain employed with the province can and staff wishing to expolore other opportunities will be given assistance.
I want to commend our staff at DCC and across the correctional system for continuing to serve the province and the people in our custody with dedication, professionalism and compassion.
– Clif Cullen, Manitoba Justice Minister
The province will also work with employees who wish to relocate as well as those who wish to stay in Dauphin.
