In the late afternoon of April 19, 2023, a woman got into her vehicle parked in a lot in the 800 block of Portage Avenue. Seconds later a man jumped into the passenger seat and began assaulting the woman in her 40s. Although the victim was able to escape the car she was thrown to the ground and the attack continued.
Police say that a passerby yelled at the attacker and he fled the scene on foot. The suspect was last seen moving eastbound towards Broadway between the houses near Picardy Place.
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics, then received additional medical care at the hospital.
A Winnipeg Police sketch artist worked with an eyewitness and a composite sketch was drawn of the suspect.
The suspect is described as:
- a white male in his 40s-50s
- a thin build
- shaggy reddish salt/pepper-coloured hair
- beard with the same colouring
- blue eyes
- decayed/stained teeth
