On December 27, 2024, at approximately 4:36 AM, the Winnipeg Police Service was notified by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service that they were providing emergency medical care to an adult male in the 900 block of Dugas Street. The victim had sustained injuries consistent with being assaulted.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation.

The deceased victim has now been identified as 50-year-old Byron Frederick Moose. Notifications to family have been made and the investigation is continuing.
