Winnipeg police have taken a number of firearms off the streets over the last few days after several investigations took them to various parts of the city.
Gun in Vehicle
The Guns and Gangs Unit began an investigation on November 19, 2021 after learning an individual was in possession of a firearm while operating a vehicle.
The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was made. Two adults, a 29-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were arrested and seized a loaded Glock handgun, a magazine containing compatible ammunition, Percocet pills, 3.9 grams of cocaine, approximately $1,400 Canadian currency and cell phones.
Both suspects are facing drug and disarms related charges for their alleged involvement.
Firearms Trafficking
On Sunday November 21, 2021, police learned that firearms were being distributed out of a William Whyte area home.
Officers raided the residence and seized a Winchester lever-action rifle, a Browning semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, a Remington semi-automatic shotgun, a crossbow and various compatible types of ammunition.
Three adult males were detained in custody and are facing multiple firearms related charges for their alleged involvement.
Gun and Drugs
Around 9:30 am on Monday, November 22, 2021 patrol officers pulled over a taxi for a violation of the Highway Traffic Act in the Weston Area.
During the stop officers identified the adult male passenger and learned he had an outstanding warrant. He was taken into custody and a search of his possessions uncovered a sawed-off rifle and illegal drugs.
The passenger was charged with a number of firearms and drug related offences for his alleged involvement.
He was detained in custody.
