Police quickly cordoned off a large area that stretched several blocks and traffic was closed in both directions on Salter and Mountain while officers investigated the scene.

One male was transported from the scene by ambulance in critical condition. A police vehicle was seen following the ambulance to hospital. The male died shortly afterwards from the injuries he sustained in the incident.

In a media release Friday evening police say that the investigation has been taken over by the independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).

The IIU is mandated to investigate any police-involved shooting.

More information as it becomes available.
