Intoxicated suspect attempts to take cops gun

Just after 5:30 pm on Monday, January 7, 2019, Winnipeg Police responded to a call about several intoxicated people causing trouble on Union Avenue.

A WPS street supervisor was first on scene and found two men arguing in the back lane. As the officer got out of his patrol vehicle one of the men quickly approached the officer with clenched fists.

The supervisor pulled out his taser and shot the suspect.

While he was trying to cuff the man the suspect grabbed the grip on the officer’s service weapon and tried to remove it from the holster.

The man was taken into custody as other officers arrived on scene to assist.

The suspect was taken to hospital as a precaution, cleared and then taken to the Winnipeg Remand Centre due to his level of intoxication and violent behaviour.

Jarvis Leander Kent, 30 has been charged for his alleged involvement with Disarming a Peace Officer, Assault Peace Officer and Resist Peace Officer.

Kent was detained in custody.
