Interpol tips RCMP to Manitoban making online threats

A 42-year-old Manitoba man is facing charges after he allegedly made online threats against law enforcement, government officials and medical professionals. On January 11, 2023, the RCMP received a report from Interpol that the threats have been made on several social media platforms and the associated account tracked back to a person in Russell.

Officers investigated and were able to identify the account holder. The suspect allegedly had a violent history with police encounters so officers attempted to have the suspect turn himself in by contacting an adult at his residence. When this approach did not work officers went to the suspect’s home, knocked on the door and when the suspect answered told him he was under arrest for uttering threats. Police say that the man immediately became combative with officers and resisted arrest.

As officers were physically trying to get the man under control one of the officers was bitten in the leg by the suspect’s dogs who had attempted to intervene. The bite caused a superficial injury.

Michael Jae Man of Russell has been charged for his alleged involvement with Uttering Threats, Resisting Arrest and four counts of Assaulting a Police Officer.

Man was detained in custody.

Police continue to investigate
