Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport has a new tool to help speed up processing of passengers arriving from outside Canada.
16 primary inspection kiosks have been added in the international arrivals area that will allow passengers with scannable travel documents to save time by self-declaring as they enter the country. Travellers scan their travel documents, have their photo taken and complete an on-screen declaration. Upon completion, they then take their kiosk receipt to a Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officer.
Those looking to save more time at the kiosk can download the CanBorder – eDeclaration mobile app prior to their arrival. The app allows declarations to be made in advance and it then generates a QR code that can be scanned at the kiosks when they arrive.
“Enhancing the customer experience is at the heart of what we do at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. Our investment in these new kiosks is another step in providing a world-class experience for travellers to our city,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority.
With the addition of Winnipeg, the CSBA now has Primary Inspection Kiosks at nine airports across the country.
“The Government of Canada is committed to offering Canadians and international travellers a better airport experience with innovative technologies and digitized services. The Primary Inspection Kiosk combines the efficiency air travellers need with the security Canadians expect,” said Doug Eyolfson, MP for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingley.
Primary Inspection Kiosks were first used in Canada in March 2017.
