Medical Examiner calls inquest into Stony Mountain inmate death

The Acting Chief Medical Examiner for Manitoba, Dr John Younes has called an inquest into the death of a Stony Mountain Institution inmate.

Lewis Sitar, 50 died on March 3, 2107, after he was found unresponsive in his cell on February 21, 2017. At the time he was found he showed signs of having a seizure. He was taken to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

Called under the Fatality Inquiries Act the inquest will look into if Sitar died due to an act or omission by a peace officer in the course of their duty and whether or not anything could be to prevent similar deaths in the future.

The Chief Judge of Manitoba will determine a date and time for the inquest.
