Manitoba’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr John K Younes, has called an inquest into the death of a 42-year-old inmate at Stoney Mountain Institution in April 2019.
The victim was identified as Adrian Fillion. He was involved in an altercation with two other inmates and suffered 52 stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in Stonewall but soon died from his injuries.
The investigation indicated that Fillion had been targeted in the prison because he was a sex offender.
The two other inmates, Peter Fisher and Kevin Curtis Edwards, pleaded guilty to First-Degree Murder in 2020. Neither of the accused will be eligible for parole for 25 years.
The date, time and location of the inquest has yet to be set by the Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba.
