Inmate dies at Stony Mountain Institution

A 39-year-old inmate at Stony Mountain Institution, just north of Winnipeg, has died while in custody.

Officials from Correctional Service Canada (CSC) say that Adrian Young died on Saturday March 7, 2020. The cause of his death has not been released.

CSC says that Young was serving a 30 year sentence for manslaughter, attempted murder and aggravated assault. He had been an inmate since June of 2001.

Young’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

A review of the circumstances surrounding his death will be made according to the CSC. Police and the Medical Examiner’s office hav been notified.

In January 2020, another inmate 29-year-old Shawn Poitra died at the institution after an illness. He had been serving a sentence for manslaughter.
