Inmate dies at Stony Mountain Institution

Correctional Service Canada reported that an inmate has died while in custody at Stony Mountain Institution on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

The inmate has been identified as David Midouin who had been serving a four year, eight-month and 28-day sentence for Utter Threat to Cause Death/Harm, Discharge Restricted/Prohibited Firearm with Intent, Possession Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession for Purpose of Selling, Intimidation of a Justice System Participant/Journalist and Possession of a Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order. Moudouin was incarcerated on September 8, 2020.

CSC did not provide details as to the cause of death but noted the inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

Both the police and coroner have been notified of the death which is required under CSC policy. An internal review will be conducted by CSC regarding the circumstances of the death.
