Inmate from Stony Mountain dies after being assaulted last week

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has reported that one of the inmates who had been assaulted in Stony Mountain Institution last Thursday has died in hospital.

Adam Kent Monias, 25, was serving a sentence for second-degree murder, aggravated assault and uttering threats to cause death or harm.

CSC has not said what the cause of death was but does say that it was related to the assault.

Monias had been in Stony Mountain for more than three years and was serving an indeterminate sentence.

The prison just north of Winnipeg has been on lockdown since the assault on three inmates took place in the medium security unit.
