The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating following the use of a less-lethal firearm that resulted in the injury to a suspect in Norway House First Nation.
On January 31, 2024, Norway House RCMP officers were called to a residence in Norway House First Nation regarding threats of violence. When police arrived they learned that two men had barricaded themselves in the home.
As police tried to take the men into custody a round was discharged from an extended range impact weapon causing bruising to the torso of one of the suspects.
As the injury was a result of the use of a firearm it is considered serious and the IIU is mandated to investigate.
