On Thursday, July 16, 2020, Premier Brian Pallister announced the province is planning an improvement to the intersection go Highway 1 and Highway 16 as part of the $500 million Manitoba Restart Program.
“Our goal is to improve safety and traffic flow at this significant intersection, where Manitoba’s two major east-west strategic economic corridors connect,” said Pallister. “Driver safety is our main concern, as there have been several collisions at this intersection over the years, and we have started a comprehensive review study on possible options to address safety concerns.”

Currently there are traffic lights at the intersection. The province has undertaken a study to design a roundabout to improve safety at the intersection.
The study is expected to be complete by October of 2020.
