Impaired, erratic driver circles police HQ, crashes into garage doors

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 41-year-old male who had been driving in an erratic manner while circling the Winnipeg Police Service headquarters on Friday night, December 31, 2021.

The incident began around 8:45 pm when security staff at watched a sedan drive through the bus transit corridor then up not a sidewalk in front of the police building on Graham Avenue. As the driver circled the building he rammed into two overhead police garage doors and also hit a Winnipeg Transit bus twice.

Police say the driver was taken into custody when he got out of the vehicle while it was still moving.

The suspect has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both, two counts of Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand, Mischief Over $5,000 and two counts of Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice as is mandated by the criminal code.
