On April 10, 2024, at approximately 8:10 am, Headingley RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 3 near Brunkild, Manitoba. The vehicle, which had ended up in the northwest ditch, was being towed out when officers arrived. It is believed that the collision happened around 1:00 am.
Upon investigation, the male driver of the vehicle appeared to be impaired. A female was found sleeping in the backseat of the vehicle. A search was conducted after officers found illegal cigarettes on the driver. The search yielded crack, cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.
The 43-year-old male driver from Steinbach and the 21-year-old female from the RM of Ste. Anne were arrested on the scene. Both were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Officers used Approved Drug Screening Equipment on the driver, which tested positive for cocaine. Additional charges are pending.
Both suspects were released pending a future court date. The driver’s license was also revoked as part of the ongoing investigation.
