Impaired driver crashes into ambulance

A 19-year-old male driver is facing impaired driving charges after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service ambulance early Saturday morning, February3, 2024.

According to police a Toyota Matrix was speeding northbound on Plessis Road when it entered the intersection at Regent Avenue West on a red light and hit a westbound ambulance en route to a call. The ambulance sustained significant damage.

The paramedics in the ambulance were assessed at the scene and released. The driver of the Matrix was taken to hospital, treated and released.

Winnipeg Police Service officers arrested the driver who is facing a charge for his alleged involvement of Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or Combination of Both. He was released from custody.
