A 25-year-old male is facing drug trafficking as well as impaired driving charges after he was involved in two different crashes on Thursday afternoon, May 2, 2019.
Police say the man smashed his ruck into a fence in the mission industrial area around 4:30 pm. Shortly afterwards the same truck was involved in a collision at St. Annes Road and Fermor Avenue. The driver got out of the truck and exchanged details before driving off.
Police tracked the licence plate and found the truck behind a building in the 300 block of Marion Street. Police talked to the male passenger inside who told officers that the driver had gone into his suite about 15 minutes before but was not answering his cellphone.
Officers went into the building and found the door to the suite partially open. Upon entering the suite they found the driver passed out on the couch. Cocaine and cash were nearby him.
Police woke the driver and placed him under arrest.
Investigators were able to secure a search warrant for the suite a short time later and a search turned up a number of items including:
- Approximately 15 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $1,200)
- Approximately 5.45 ounces of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $4,300)
- 2 digital scales contaminated with a white residue
- 4 cellular phones
- $15,635 in Canadian currency
- Packaging material (ie. baggies, elastics)
Michael Robert Labossiere from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Labossiere also had an outstanding warrant for suspension of his parole.
He was detained in custody.
