Impaired driver slams vehicle into police truck to avoid arrest

RCMP have arrested a 42-year-old impaired driver after he slammed his vehicle into a marked police truck to avoid arrest.

Police got a call about a possible impaired driver around 5:30 pm on Saturday, July 7, 2018, on Highway 11 in Lac du Bonnet. As police were searching for the vehicle another call came in indicating the vehicle was at Highway 11 at Highway 214.

Officers were able to locate the truck at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 44. Police attempted to pull the driver over but he did not comply and continued to drive erratically. Eventually, the man did pull to the side of the road a few kilometres later. The man then got out of his vehicle and police told him he was under arrest.

At this point, the man got back into his vehicle put it into reverse and accelerated backwards hitting the police truck. He then took off, however, officers were able to stop him about a 100 metres down the road. As the man got out of the vehicle this time he threw a bat and an axe at the police vehicle.

The officer was able to arrest the suspect but as he did the man spit at him.
