512 position deletion letters being sent to nurses
With dramatic changes underway in the way emergent and urgent care services are provided in Winnipeg nurses have been wondering how their jobs will be impacted.
On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) announced some of the changes surrounding nursing.
512 position deletion letters are being sent out to nurses working at the Grace Hospital, Victoria Hospital and Misericordia Hospital.
The WRHA says that although the current positions are being deleted it doesn’t mean nurses will be out of a job, just that they will have to reapply for positions that are currently vacant or opening within the same facilities or other facilities across the region.

12 positions will be deleted on October 3, 2017, after the Misericordia Urgent Care Centre is closed
250 positions are being deleted at the Grace Hospital and an additional 250 positions are being deleted at the Victoria hospital in what the WRHA is calling Phase one.
Phase two will come into play once the ER at Concordia Hospital closes and Seven Oaks’ ER is converted to an urgent care centre.

News 4 has also learned that later this fall or early in 2018 nurses working in the Home Care Programs across the region will also be receiving position deletion letters and will have to reapply for jobs. As part of that change, the percentage of Registered Nurses (RN) within the program will drop to 50% with Licenced Practical Nurses (LPN) filling the other 50% of positions.
