ILLEGAL PARKERS BEWARE, SCHOOL ZONES, FIRE LANES AND HANDICAP SPOTS ARE OFF LIMITS

Fines can reach $300 per occurrence

Winnipeg Parking Authority (WPA) isn’t going to let you get away with parking illegally in the city especially when it comes to parking in school zones, fire lanes and handicap parking spots.

As of today, May 1, 2017, Winnipeg Parking Authority will enforce their right to issue and mail out tickets for parking violations related to these restricted areas.

Although in the past many drivers in Winnipeg ignored the signs the Parking Authority says they will be cracking down and have begun to use photos to catch those who violate posted areas.

The city has five enforcement vehicles that can capture licence plates while moving so if you did park illegally you could find yourself receiving a ticket in the mail. It’s not cheap either. If you park in a fire lane or in a handicap spot without a permit you could face a $300 fine. In a school zone you will be tagged for $70.

As part of the crackdown WPA has  launched a public awareness campaign to highlight the issue.
