The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after a woman complained to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) that she was assaulted by two officers.
The woman alleges that during a roadside stop on June 7, 2016, officers physically assaulted her. Investigators from the WPS Professional Standards Unit met with the woman to hear her complaints.
On July 25, the IIU was advised of the incident and received a preliminary report from the WPS Professional Standards Unit. The IIU civilian director has determined it is in the public interest to have the unit assume jurisdiction of this investigation, in accordance with Section 75 (1) of The Police Services Act.
